Reducing root galling caused by root knot nematodes in black pepper (<em>Piper nigrum</em> L. cv. ‘Kuching’) through nutrient supplementation

چکیده

Purpose: Root-knot nematodes (RKN) remain one of the leading causes economic damage in black pepper (Piper nigrum L.) cultivation worldwide. An experiment was conducted to evaluate response plants RKN when irrigated with three nutrient solutions; Hoagland solution only, + 0.005 mM potassium silicate solution, and 2 salicylic acid solution. Research Method: Plants grown medium-sized polybags were inoculated routinely appropriate solutions. Presence foliar symptoms infection on plants, their aerial growth plus root infestation assessed. Superoxide anion hydrogen peroxide production from plant leaves also detected after inoculation. Findings: Foliar started manifesting 81 days without or supplementation displayed most severe disorder symptoms, highest galling shortest growth. had showed least oxidative stress challenged RKN. Originality: From present results, soil amendment is a promising tool for reducing promoting RKN-infested fields.

Reaction of Different Pepper Cultivars to Two Species of Root- Knot Nematodes (M. Javanica and M. Incognita)

Root knot nematode is one of the important plant pathogens that causes damage to many crops, including greenhouse crops. Pepper is an agricultural crop which its cultivation has increased in recent years, especially in greenhouses. Most of the adopted management methods for this nematode have not met the required efficiency. In this study, reaction of some pepper cultivars (Elmina, Tuvana, Chal...

Comparisons of Pathological Responses in Carrot to Root-knot Nematodes

Carrot (Dacus carota var. sativus) is one of the top-ten most economically important vegetable crops produced worldwide, and the root-knot nematodes, Meloidogyne spp., are one of the most important pests in the carrot. In Korea, M. hapla and M. incognita are presumed to be the major root-knot nematodes distributing mostly in open carrot fields and greenhouses, respectively. In our study, curren...

Specific microbial attachment to root knot nematodes in suppressive soil.

Understanding the interactions of plant-parasitic nematodes with antagonistic soil microbes could provide opportunities for novel crop protection strategies. Three arable soils were investigated for their suppressiveness against the root knot nematode Meloidogyne hapla. For all three soils, M. hapla developed significantly fewer galls, egg masses, and eggs on tomato plants in unsterilized than ...

Single populations of Meloidogyne arenaria races 1 (MA1) and 2 (MA2) and M. hapla (MH), and mixed populations of MA1 + MA2 and MA1 + MH with four inoculum levels of eggs were tested on peanut cv. 'Florigiant' and M. incognita-resistant tobacco cv. 'McNair 373' in a greenhouse experiment. Root infection, female development, and reproduction of MA2 on peanut and MA1 on resistant tobacco were limi...
